President’s Message

SMEs are a group with great influence. Sustainability is a global goal. The SME Sustainability Society is a group of people with a focus on caring and responsibility who expect to bring innovative thinking to SMEs in Hong Kong and even Greater China, and who jointly practice Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In addition to driving the economy, we also shoulder the responsibility for community and environment, and hope to build a better society.

The idea of setting up the SME Sustainability Society was born out of a dialogue with Professor Lo earlier this year. Professor Lo established the Hong Kong SME Business Sustainability Index five years ago. As a group of friends who have always been enthusiastic about CSR, we were invited to participate. In the past five years, we have not only continued to work hard in our businesses, but also invested more resources in CSR projects. Our efforts have been affirmed by the Index, which greatly encourages us to continue to contribute to sustainable development in the areas of the economy, society and the environment. While we were discussing how to implement sustainable development policy in our companies, an idea emerged: Apart from this group of people, how about the other SMEs?

There are more than 320,000 SMEs in Hong Kong. If each one of us is willing to take a small step to integrate CSR into our businesses, our society will be different.

With this belief, we come together. We hope to share our past experience with other SMEs; we hope to gather more people with the same vision and create a greater impact; we hope to lead the industry and develop together in the direction of innovation, professionalism and sustainability.

Thanks to the full support and trust of Professor Lo and the members of the Board of Directors, I am deeply honoured to be the founding president and to be granted the opportunity to work with a like-minded team to lead the growth of SMEs in sustainable development. In the future, we will work hard to unite elite leaders from all walks of life, inspire more SMEs to adopt CSR as a management model, integrate the resources of all parties, and establish a set of practical methods that SMEs can use to bring positive value to society.

The SME Sustainability Society is taking responsibility for promoting sustainable development in the industry. Sustainable development is no longer just a slogan, but a kind of action — a concept that can be practiced and achieved.
